Mauri E. Peyton, Esq.

Founding Member, Chief Financial Officer, Real Estate Board Certified Specialist

Mauri Peyton grew up in Dallas, TX. He earned a B.A. in business administration from Washington Jefferson College and graduated cum laude from St. Thomas University School of Law, where he was an editor of the St. Thomas Law Review.

In 2007, Mauri founded the Law Firm of Mauri Peyton, P.A. In 2008, he and Jane founded the law firm of PeytonBolin, PL, where he currently leads the association litigation practice and is general counsel to many of the firm’s association clients.

He has previously worked for the Broward State Attorneys Office, United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and several law firms in South Florida. Prior to his legal career, Mauri was a manager of Grotto Pizza in Dewey Beach, Delaware.

Mauri is an active member of the Broward Bar Association and involved with several local charities.

Mauri was invited to appear as a guest attorney for the Litigation Boot Camp for Financial Experts, presented by the Financial Forensics Institute of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) where he conducted the mock trial finale in front of a live jury.

Mauri also presented at the Entrepreneurship Summer Camp and Personal Enrichment (ESCAPE) sponsored by the International Institute for Franchise Education and Nova Southeastern University where he spoke to ambitious high school students on the topic of business ethics.

Jane F. Bolin, Esq.

Founding Member, Chief Marketing Officer, Rising Star 2015

Originally from the Washington, DC area, the focus of Jane’s practice is association law and real property litigation. She received a B.A. in political science from Radford University, a Masters in sports management from the United States Sports Academy, and her juris doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law. Joseph S. Giannell, Esq.

Founding Member, Real Estate Board Certified Specialist, Chief Operating Officer

Joseph S. Giannell grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio before moving to Florida to attend law school. He graduated summa cum laude from Baldwin-Wallace College with a B.A. in business finance and economics, and he graduated summa cum laude (3rd in his class) from St. Thomas University School of Law, where he was also an Articles Editor of the St. Thomas Law Review. The focus of Joseph’s practice at PeytonBolin, PL is association law, real property litigation, and residential and commercial real estate transactions. Prior to joining PeytonBolin, PL, Joseph worked for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office and Clyne & Associates, P.A. Joseph is currently licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and all Florida state courts.
Joseph is actively involved as a professor at Florida National College, where he teaches several law classes in the Legal Studies and Criminal Justice programs. He was recently one of three professors nominated and inducted into the Mu Zeta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honors Society as a faculty member at Florida National College. Joseph has also had one of his scholarly articles, “The Second Amendment Through the Eyes of the Impoverished,” published in the SRBLSA Law Journal. Joseph is active in the local bar organizations, and is a member of the National Italian American Bar Association.

Michael Mayer, Esq.

Litigation Managing Attorney

Michael Mayer grew up in Montvale, New Jersey before moving to Florida. He received his B.A. in English from the University of Florida and received his juris doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law.

While in law school, Michael received the best in class award for Trial Advocacy. He was also the President of the Moot Court Honors Society and worked for the Honorable David M. Gersten at the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami, Florida.

Prior to joining PeytonBolin, PL, Michael worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami, where he represented indigent clients from their initial arrest to their appeal. He was lead counsel on numerous jury trials ranging from misdemeanors to life felonies before expanding his practice to the Public Defender’s Appellate division where he argued extensively before the Third District Court of Appeal.

In 2009, Michael became a coach for the St. Thomas Trial team where he led the team in his first year to State and National championship victories. In 2010, Michael became the director of the St. Thomas Trial team and in 2013, he received the award for Adjunct Professor of the year. As a Senior Associate, Michael is the firm’s lead trial attorney and oversees the litigation department.

Marlene Brito, Esq.

Associate Attorney

Marlene Brito is a South Florida native. She received a B.S. in criminal justice from Florida International University and graduated magna cum laude from St. Thomas University School of Law.  After her first year in law school, Marlene was a recipient of the Cuban American Bar Foundation 2014 “At-Large” Scholarship.

While in law school, Marlene was a member of the St. Thomas Law Review and Moot Court Board. She received a Cali Book Award in the Real Estate Development and Finance class. Marlene was also part of the Appellate Litigation Clinic where she had the opportunity to be a certified legal intern with the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and argued before the Third District Court of Appeal. Most recently, Marlene’s article, “Terminating a Condominium or Terminating Property Rights: a Distinction Without a Difference” was published in the Real Estate Law Journal.

Marlene first joined the PeytonBolin team as a law clerk and was later hired as an associate upon graduating law school

Katie Miller, Esq.

Associate

Katie Miller grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Utah. She graduated with her juris doctorate from New England Law Boston. Katie joined the PeytonBolin team 2014 and is the general counsel representing homeowner and association clients. It is Katie’s goal to help her clients fully understand their legal rights and responsibilities as well as help them maximize the great personal fulfillment there is to being a homeowner and active in their community. She empowers her clients with knowledge to guide and help them properly protect their investment.

Katie’s love of interacting with her clients and helping them augment their role as a homeowner or board member within their association carries outside the office. She currently serves as the president of her condo association, because of her experience she understands the unique equation of what it takes to be an effective board member while balancing her rights as a homeowner. When Katie isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her husband and 4 children, traveling to anywhere and everywhere.

Melissa O’Connor, Esq.

Of Counsel

Melissa O’Connor assists clients in the firms’ environmental and land use practice, including counseling and advising clients about strategies to assure environmental compliance and avoid or minimize environmental risks and liabilities, in addition to defense of environmental enforcement actions. She represents companies and individuals in matters involving federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. She also assists in real estate litigation matters.

Melissa is an experienced regulator who has also worked as an independent environmental consultant. Her unique background provides her with in-depth knowledge of the issues facing the regulated community, particularly solid and hazardous wastes, leaking underground storage tanks, drinking water, wastewater and water quality standards as they relate to permitting.

Before entering the legal realm, Melissa’s first career was as an environmental scientist, including creating a coastal recreational water quality monitoring plan for the Hawaii Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch. She also composed the Environmental Health Administration’s Environmental Equity policy, and coordinated the Administration’s two Advisory groups – the Environmental Management Advisory Group, and the Water Quality Standards Technical Advisory Group.

She is the Treasurer the Florida Association of Environmental Professionals and a Board Member of its South Florida chapter.

Prior to joining the firm, Melissa served as law clerk to Chief Judge Ronald Ibarra of Hawaii’s Third Circuit court, and subsequently prosecuted cases in the County of Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney which included environmental/resource crimes. She is admitted to both the Florida and Hawaii bars.

Melissa received a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science Affairs from the University of Miami, and earned a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from The Johns Hopkins University, before earning her law degree.

Administration

Louis Mazza

Accounting Manager

Louis is a recent Florida resident. He graduated with a BA from CUNY University and a MA from the University of Southern California.
He brings over 25 years’ experience in financial, operational and personnel management. He developed and managed a nationwide audio/visual production company.
After selling the company, he worked as a sales and marketing consultant to various businesses in Westchester County, NY.
Prior to joining PeytonBolin, PL he was the financial officer for the law firm of Hoffman, Wachtell & Rao. As office manager and financial officer at PeytonBolin, Louis relishes the many opportunities and challenges the growth of the firm has presented.
In his brief 10 month tenure, he has seen the firm triple from six to 18 employees. “Thanks to Mauri and Jane’s leadership and pursuit of excellence, PeytonBolin is a very exciting and challenging place work.” In his spare time, Louis is involved in officiating High School sports and is an avid tennis player.

Diane Wright

Marketing Manager

Diane has been with the firm for over six years. This experience has given her many opportunities for professional growth. She has had the privilege of seeing the PeytonBolin team quadruple in size. Her roles have changed and advanced with the sustained growth and has included management, management development, and special projects. This in-depth knowledge of the firm has empowered and qualify her for her current position of Business Development.

Elizabeth K. Schlaerth

Office Manager

Beth grew up in a small town just outside of Rochester, New York. After getting her BA in Political Science and Anthropology she relocated to sunny South Florida! Prior to joining the PeytonBolin team in 2012, she worked at Barry University in the Archives and Special Collections Department where she developed a background in records management.
As the Office Manager of PeytonBolin, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm in regards to productivity, technology, training and development, and staff and systems management. She enjoys learning new technology applications, and implementing them firm-wide.

Sometimes that goes hand-in-hand with troubleshooting with and educating staff members. Her goal is to teach attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants how to maximize their productivity by taking full advantage of their integrated applications. She also empowers staff to reach a comfort level with experimental technology so that their firm can maintain their spot at the forefront of technological innovation in the legal field. In her free time, you can expect she’ll be doing something adventurous outdoors as she is interested in rugby, fishing, paddle boarding, and exploring the many salt life activities Florida has to offer.
